President
Tubman’s Birth Anniversary Declared A National Holiday
(MONROVIA, NOVEMBER 27, 2013): The President of the
Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson
Sirleaf has by Proclamation,declared Friday, November 29, 2013 as
the 118th Birth Anniversary of
President William V.S. Tubman, and is to be observed as a NATIONAL
HOLIDAY throughout Liberia.
The Proclamation is in
consonance with an Act enacted by the 42nd National
Legislature at its 3rd Session declaring November 29 of each year as the birth Anniversary of Liberia’s 18TH President,
William V.S. Tubman and to be
celebrated as a National Holiday.
This observance is in
recognition of President Tubman’s productive and meaningful services and policies
including the Open Door Policy, the National Unification and Integration Policy,
the granting of suffrage to Women as well as the policies on the all
socio-economic development nationwide, and his contribution to the emancipation
of African colonial territories into statehood.
The Proclamation recalls
the numerous contribution and profound changes and lasting accomplishments made
by President William V.S. Tubman during his Administration, adding, the
Liberian citizens in appreciation of his remarkable leadership petitioned and requested
the Legislature of Liberia to issue a permanent record of their sentiments in
honor of his birth for posterity.
The Proclamation has
further ordered all Government Offices, Business Houses and market places to be
closed during the observance from six O’ clock ante meridian to six O’ clock
post meridian.
